“Mom! Where are we going?” -says a very whiny 8 year old me from the cramped back seat of the family car sandwiched in between my two little brothers, David and Matthew.
“We are just following our noses.” -says mom cheerfully from the passenger seat.
I hated that expression as a kid! “Following our noses?” I wanted to know where we were going, what would we be doing, and how many “Mr. Roger’s” would it take to get there? Yes, as a kid in the 80’s that’s how we learned how to tell time. How many episodes of Mr Roger’s Neighborhood would it take to get somewhere? It’s not like we had any electronic devices to actually watch an episode in the car. We were just supposed to imagine that period of time I guess?
15 minutes later (about half of Mr. Roger’s episode) in an even more drawn out, high pitched whine…..
“Mom!!! Are we almost there?”
Today, I’m 40, living in beautiful Colorado, and one of my favorite things to do is actually “follow my nose.” My blog title. Get it? Thanks mom. Actually, mom has been encouraging/nagging me to write about my adventures in following my nose to cool places for quite some time.
I love to be outside as much as I possibly can….Hiking, snowshoeing, snowboarding, photography, snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, biking, running, camping, fishing. Some of these things I get to do frequently because, well, Colorado is just that awesome. Some, I’d like to do more of and of course I’m always looking to add to the list (as long as it doesn’t involve sketchy heights).
I write lists. Lots of them. What specific trails do I want to hike? Where do I want to camp? What Colorado 14’ers do I want to summit. In what ways can I become more involved in conservation and environmental activism? Which National Parks and State Parks do I visit? What do I even want to write about in this blog?
Well, we’re about to find out…
