Beat the Summer Heat

It’s mid June. It’s toasty outside. We still want to hike! 🌞🌲🏞

This afternoon, after work, we escaped the heat at Elk Meadow Park in Evergreen, CO. This fantastic park is part of the Jefferson Open Space Park system and offers several trailheads in which to park at and a plethora (I love that word) of trails in varying degrees of difficulty to hike, run, or bike.

We parked at the Stagecoach Trailhead, grabbed a map at the info board, and ventured up the Meadowview Trail armed with lots of drinking water. After a mild 1.0 mile ascent on the shaded trail we turned off onto the Bergen Peak Trail. The trail gets a little steeper and a little rockier, but we were looking for a workout. The trail continues 3.7 miles to the summit. Bergen Peak Trail stays pretty shaded from the hot sun and has some great views. The peak itself and trail end is at 9701′

We didn’t make it to the summit this particular hike because of the time of day (ugh, why do we need jobs anyway?) and we had margaritas in Downtown Evergreen to get to 😉🍹.

Me and my fanny fanny pack. I will totally write about my fanny fanny pack in a future post because I love it!

Our total hike today was about 6 1/2 miles round trip. We turned around at an incredible overlook that we had once stopped at before on our very first hike as a couple ever! Cue the ahhhhhhhhs. 🤗

Side Note:

Dinner and margaritas were super satisfying. We highly recommend Maya’s Cantina and Grill in Evergreen. We scored a terrific people watching bistro table on their patio. Fresh crunchy chips and house made salsa, yummy classic lime margaritas, and flavorful entrees made this a perfect post hike dinner on a comfortable summer night.
