Lair o’ the Bear

It’s summer in Denver! 90 degree temps during the day makes running a little difficult and very sweaty. Luckily, we live near some awesome open space parks in the foothills that are ideal for evening runs.

Lair o’ the Bear Park (best name ever!) offers great trails for hiking, mountain biking, and of course, running. Tonight, we opted for a mild, flat run along Bear Creek Trail (3 miles round trip). At 6pm the trail is shaded and very comfortable for summertime running. The gentle, crushed gravel trail follows the creek the whole way. The smells of the evergreen forest and the sounds of the rushing water make this a serene setting to stretch the getaway sticks. (“Getaway sticks” Copyright my hunny/running partner, Aaron πŸ˜‰)

Oh, and how about passing a castle in the woods along your route? I was fascinated by the fully operational water wheel. Cool!

They even have synchronized duck swimming shows! Free! πŸ¦†πŸ¦†

While we opted for a short run, you can very easily continue on Bear Creek Trail in either direction. To the east, the trail continues 0.3 miles to Little Park and to the west 4.3 miles, Pence Park.

Tonight, I’ll be honest, Aaron and I really fought the urge to just stay home and “couch it up”, but we mustered enough motivation and got our butts up and out to the trail. We NEVER regret getting out. Ever. Within minutes, we both exclaimed, “I’m so glad we got out!”

In fact, I felt so good after our run that I couldn’t help myself on the amphitheater stage…

Happy Dance.
